community projects

While growing up in Louisiana, my small single-parent family endured poverty. Despite this, my mother used her creativity and strength to raise my brother and I, and our days were always filled with color. Through my misfortune I was able to educate myself and after time, create opportunities to help others lift themselves out of their circumstances.

As a practicing designer, I continue my personal mission to pursue design for good by focusing on projects that impact the local and broad communities of which I am a part. I find a lot of joy in contributing to my city. I have served on the City of Kent Design Committee for several years, helping to steer and generate design initiatives for the benefit of our citizens. I have also contributed to the city’s newest project, an in-depth research project intended to examine and mobilize the community-centric goals of our residents.

Through my position with the university I have found many opportunities to continue other important collaborations like these. Much of my work has been for the benefit of disenfranchised audiences, such the impoverished, incarcerated individuals, survivors of tragedy, LGBTQ+ communities, and more.

The selected projects below highlight causes that have been especially rewarding to my students and I.
